Terms and Conditions
It is a client's responsibility to review the Terms and Conditions to ensure that they not only understand them, but are aware of any changes that might occur.
MANUSCRIPTS should be submitted in Times New Roman, size 12 font. If they are not, I will change them to make the editing process easier.
I DO NOT edit non-fiction books. However, I will consider non-fiction articles, website material, press releases, and other such subject matter. Any non-fiction projects I take on will incur a higher fee than fiction works.
GENRES I prefer to work with:
AUTHORS are responsible for getting their books to me by the date agreed upon. If I have not received it within two days of the agreed upon date, I will move on to the next in line, unless I have an email from the author and we agree on other terms.
RUSH jobs will incur a fee dependent on length and time given to complete. This fee will be 50% of the total completed word count of the manuscript before editing begins, in addition to the usual fee determined by the editing package you have chosen. NOTE: Rush jobs are designed to "rush" the process for the client in order to meet their proposed deadline. This service is by no means a guarantee that the client's deadline will be met. Our team will do anything and everything in our power to provide a completed edit in approximately half the time of our typical turnaround, or sooner depending on what the client is quoted via email discussion and subsequent agreement. As we are only human and life happens, if for any reason a rush job is unable to be completed in the time specified, whether due to personal occurrences out of our control or acts of God, a notice will be given to the client via email ASAP. The client agrees that in such circumstances, the final half of the contract fee will be suspended, and work already completed will be returned to them immediately to be used as they so choose. Client agrees not slander Editing Done Write or anyone working for Editing Done Write as a result of expectations not met. In addition, Editing Done Write and those working for Editing Done Write will not be held responsible for any losses or supposed losses, financial or otherwise, as a result of their inability to deliver a completed document in the agreed-upon time at any point in time prior, during, or after the agreement was made.
PLEASE be aware that--with few exceptions--I (Brandi) am NOT a developmental editor. I am first and foremost a copy editor. This is by choice. If you have need of a developmental editor, I have teamed up with the talented bestselling author Cyndi Faria to provide this service, which should come BEFORE you contact me for copy editing or proofreading. If after I start an edit I find that your book needs extensive work beyond the service selected, all work will stop and the author will be contacted and recommended to Cyndi, who will happily provide a developmental edit at our discounted package rate, thus providing you with a seamless editing experience. To help ensure that this doesn't happen, I ask that the author sends me a sample from the middle of the book before committing to any service so that we can determine together which service will work best for you.
PAYMENT is accepted in two parts: half up front, and the remainder at the end. An invoice will be sent through PayPal once upon receiving the manuscript and once when the edit is finished. I reserve the right to withhold your manuscript until final payment is made in full, upon which time it will be returned. If you choose to cancel your service once it has been started, a $100 cancellation fee will be deducted from the initial payment. If all work is completed but final payment is not made, I reserve the right to withhold the manuscript indefinitely and without return of initial payment made. No exceptions will be made unless the author has contacted me beforehand to make other payment arrangements. Because fees can be pricey, if you find the need to make payments outside of the 50/50 rule I have outlined, that can also be arranged.
CANCELLING your service will not result in any fees. However, my time is precious and limited. Please be respectful and let me know at least two weeks ahead of time if you cannot keep your appointment for any reason so that someone else may utilize that spot.
HOLIDAYS and weekends DO NOT count toward the amount of time given to edit your manuscript. Those times are spent with my family. Those days will be accounted for when given the final return date for your manuscript. If for any reason you believe your manuscript needs to encroach on this time in order to be completed by its deadline, please inquire about our RUSH service.
**I reserve the right to refuse any and all manuscripts at my discretion.**
